*I received this product for free or at a discounted cost in exchange for my honest and unbiased feedback. These shoes are from ZooShoo on Amazon.*
I found these shoes to be true to size. I ordered them in my usual size (5.5) and they fit perfectly! They're not to narrow and not too wide--I feel they're the usual width most shoes are (they are a stiffer material though so unlike something like tennis shoes, there's not too much give if you do need them wider). The stiffness of them, due to the leather-like material (if not real leather), helps them keep their shape really well though! I find this helpful when storing. And don't worry, it's not so stiff it's difficult to get on. I found them really easy to get in and out of. These shoes are really tall! Which isn't a bad thing--for me at least. I love tall shoes so these are great. I will admit they are taking some getting used to though--while I wear platforms often, I don't really wear heels too often. I definitely don't think these are an ALL day kind of shoe. These are great for going out and spending a few hours in though! I got them in the color "Wine" and found the color to be true to what the image on the listing shows. I absolutely love them in this color as well! They give a pop of color to a dark outfit and have this edgy/grungy vibe--which is fitting for my style. I also really like the look the texture/material of the shoes give. The soles have a little bit of padding but not by much. This doesn't make them uncomfortable but I would invest in some sole inserts if you plan to wear them fairly often (I do this with most of my heels anyways). The thickness of the heels keeps them more stable when walking (I find I can be a bit wobbly at first with thinner heeled shoes--but these ones help me wobble much less because of the thick heels). The shoes are also light weight, surprisingly! They don't feel heavy and your feet don't feel weighed down by them. So overall, after a bit of getting used to (if you're not used to heels) I find them fairly easy to walk in and wear. I absolutely love the color and love the style of them! The shoes are really nice quality and are well made. These are definitely one of my new favorite pairs of shoes.
I plan to wear these shoes with more of my darker outfits. I have a lot of outfits that are mostly just black or monochrome. I feel these shoes will add a subtle pop of color with a lot of my outfits that only contain shades of grey, black and/or white. I don't plan to wear these daily but am definitely going to wear these for any short events or when going out for a short time and a nice occasion.
These shoes I also received for free or at a discounted price (in exchange for an honest, unbiased review) from ZooShoo on Amazon.
I really love these shoes! They fit perfectly/are true to size. They're made from this rubber-y, silicone-like material which is actually pretty comfortable and not very slipper (which I was semi-expecting). The soles aren't too padded unfortunately, but I think the material it's made from makes it softer and comfortable to wear. The straps are adjustable and I was able to easily adjust them so they felt secure and my feet didn't risk slipping around. There is a bit of a rubber-y smell at first, but I found that goes away fairly quickly. I got it in the "Nude" color and found it to be just slightly lighter than the photo listed (which some color difference is to be expected due to various things--such as monitor differences, lighting, etc). I still love the color though! It's not drastically off or anything, just a shade or two lighter and is still great for summer and spring. By the way, these are great for summer and spring (like I just mentioned), no matter what color you get them in! The shoes are fairly light, for being so large platform wise. They're easy to walk in without your feet feeling weighed down in any way. I've been able to wear them all day and have had no problems. Keep in mind, I've worn nothing but platform shoes for a few years now so I'm very used to shoes like this--I know it can usually take some getting used to. The shoes do appear to be a bit on the more narrow side. I don't have wide feet so that wasn't a problem for me, but I feel that is something for people to be aware of. The shipping was fast! I selected just the basic shipping method and they arrive in around a week. Overall, I'm incredibly happy with these shoes. I think they're super cute, they fit my style (especially for around the summer and spring season--which is what I wanted these for) and they're easy to wear throughout the day. I love the color and I love the texture/material.
I plan to wear these shoes mostly in the spring and summer. During those seasons I tend to wear more light neutral colors (such as various shades of whites and nudes), as well as pastels. My style very much leans more towards a boho or festival style, so I figured these shoes could compliment that. I'll probably mostly wear them when I want a pop of color in an all white (or mostly white) outfit or with some of my more pastel/holographic styled outfits. The nude-pink color definitely gives me a variety of style options. I even find myself throwing them on when I just need to make a quick store run or something!

I received a Yang cosplay from Miccostumes. This is her Season 2/Alternate outfit--and personally my favorite outfit of hers! If you don't know Yang is a character from Roosterteeth's animated series, RWBY. Overall, I'm very a happy with this cosplay. I ordered it in a size medium, following the sizing chart located on their website. I only had very minor issues with the fit, mostly with the two dress pieces around the waist area. While I believe it's meant to be more loose fitting around the waist design wise, I'd personally prefer it to be a little more snug. this was an easy fix though! It's easy to tailor or simply pin. Both dresses are lines so it makes it easy to hide any safety pins that may be needed. It's also a bit long for someone as short as me (I'm 5 foot), but after some adjusting I was able to make it sit how I wanted. Quick note: please forgive the lighting/color in the close up/individual photos of the product. The lighting in the professional full cosplay photos (where I am wearing the cosplay) is true to color. This is the top dress layer. It has a button that attached to one side, underneath of the top flap, and then zips up on the underside. The material is good quality, a perfect color and sturdy. The sturdiness/stiffness of the fabric gives it a good shape and helps hold the correct shape (especially around the collar). The bottom of the dress is cut at a slant, so it's true to Yang's design. The fit for this dress was slightly off, as I mentioned early. While I think it's intended to be slightly loose, I would have preferred it to be more snug around the waist. But it was an easy fix. The only other problem that occurred is due to the fact I have a very short distance between my chest and my shoulders, so the neck area is slightly long but was fixed by pulling it a little more snug near the bottom of the arm hole. The black dress also had some slight fit issues. Once again it was mostly around the waist and slightly around the bust. And again, this was easily fixed and nothing too drastic. Most of it is hidden under the top dress anyways, so it's easy to adjust as needed and not worry about anything (like pins) being seen. The dress has a slight tendency to slip down but came with small tags where bra straps could easily be attached. I personally used safety pints and pinned it to my bra underneath. The dress is lined, so like the above dress, it's really easy to hide pins. The dress is made from silk-like materials, which I find fitting and appropriate for the design. The dress has a invisible zipper on the side. The only thing odd about the zipper is is doesn't go all the way up (with how it's sewn in/placed)--it only opens at the waist, not the bust. Instead of pulling it up and over my hips, I had to maneuver it over my head--which was a bit tricky at first. The jacket fit perfectly! I had no issues with the fit for the jacket. The jacket is cropped to the perfect length and true to character. I'm also incredible happy with the fabric choices! The color is great and the fabric is sturdy. They even made the collar thicker and stiffer so it stayed up, wasn't floppy and held it's shape when worn. The shoulders also have small shoulder pads inside them to keep it's military styled shape/design. I'm so incredibly happy with those little details. They really make a huge difference in costume quality! The strap across the chest is attached by a strip of Velcro and holds well. I had no problems with it coming open no matter how I moved or posed. The sleeves are also a good length and end around my elbows just like in the character design. The jacket is lined as well! This is the belt, pouch and fabric piece for her costume. It was made from a thick material that has a fake-leathery look to it. The belt is very adjustable and could easily fit various sizes! The pouch is lined and latches by a strip of Velcro. It easily held my phone and a small wallet without feeling weighed down or causing the belt to slide or shift. I was very happy with that! It makes the cosplay very convention friendly--it's always nice to have a cosplay that has some sort of purse or pockets at a convention! I was also very happy with the fabric piece that hangs from her belt! I loved the fabric choice and color. I thought it was perfect for the cosplay! The lace piece sewn along the bottom is great, as well. It's thicker than the purple fabric and helps hold a nice shape. Instead of it possibly bunching up into an unrecognizable blob, the thick lace helps keeps it from doing that. It's also sewn looped around the belt so it's adjustable and you have the choice to bunch it tighter or looser, as well as preposition it to where you prefer. The decal on the stockings is a separate sewn on piece. I'm so happy with that. If it wear painted on it would risk scratching, flaking or simply wearing off over time. But the fact that it's another piece of fabric, I don't have to worry about that. The studs on the stockings seem secure and are placed perfectly. Even the shape/cut along the top of the stockings is true to character! The stockings had a bit of a fit issue. Because of my short height, they were fairly long and the gather straps/elastic bands were a bit loose in the front. Since she wears boots, my fit was to just scrunch the socks down a bit, to keep them from going up too high on my legs and have a bit of leg showing between the dress and the stockings. Doing this also got the elastic bands to fit tighter. I found the elastic bands/garter straps to be a lot better than other's I've encountered in the past. I was able to move, pose and sit comfortable without having to adjust anything or worrying that they would break, rip or snap off. The gloves are made from the same fabric as the stockings which I appreciate. I love consistency throughout costumes. They're also a great length and cut correctly so the design is true to character! The cosplay came with fabric versions of her gauntlets (when not "activated"). I found these just adorable and actually pretty great. The fabric used created a plastic-y, metal look which I feel is fitting for the weapon design. It's also double layers so it keeps it's shape fairly easy and doesn't flop around. If you want the "activated" gauntlets, they do sell them on their site! Miccostumes is a really great company to work with and order from. Their prices are extremely reasonable, even pretty cheap, for the high quality costumes you'd be receiving! They also offer bundle deals which allow you to get more for a lower cost than you would buying all the pieces individually. They sell the costumes, props and wigs for a majority of their cosplays! Their shipping takes about the time you'd expect a costume to take and even gives you an option to put in a preferred arrival date.
Thanks again to Miccostumes for sponsoring this cosplay! If you're looking for a costume I definitely recommend checking out their site! ~Positive Outcomes Only~ 1 Up Box is a monthly subscription box that send you various geeky goodies every month! It's about $20 a month so if you're interested in signing up click here. This month's theme was Versus! These were one of my more favorite items that came in this months box. I really like magnets considering I post up a lot of stuff (notes, calendars, etc) on the fridge. At the time of opening the box I was fairly exhausted, so it just occurred to me that this is a Red vs Blue reference (herp derp)!!! Which is why it quickly became one of my favorites from this month's box. Trinity pin! I have yet to see the Batman vs Superman movie but the pin design/logo is fairly cool. To be honest though, it wasn't a movie I was super interested in seeing asap--eventually I'll see it. I don't get the reference for these sticky notes if there is one, but the design overall is pretty cute. I like stick notes (I leave a lot of reminders for myself that way) so these come in handy. The pin for this month is pretty cute! It's probably my second favorite (after the mew). I'm not really into Ninja Turtles but I love stuffed animals. I plan to give this to my friend's son or younger cousin though. That's a great plus to this box! It makes for great smaller gifts and trinkets you can always give to friends or family, especially when it's something they enjoy more than you. These are another favorite item from this month's box. I love shoes and fun shoes so I'm excited to fine a pair of shoes to lace up with these! I absolutely love the design and color scheme. Once again, another pretty awesome shirt from 1 Up Box! I always love their shirts, they're made from such comfortable materials and so well. They fit super well too. Although the topic for the shirt isn't something I'm super big on, it's still a nice design.
This months box wasn't my favorite but I did enjoy quite a few items. There wasn't anything I super loved as much as some items I got in my other boxes though. But that's the risk with these boxes! The theme may not always be your forte. It's still a fun surprise and I did get some items from fandoms I really do love. This month's box would be great for anyone really excited for the new Batman vs Superman movie. ~Positive Outcomes Only~ Sharing one of the ways I make some of my patterns for my cosplays! :) So I usually try to find a pattern at my local fabric store that is as close as possible to the design I need. If I can't find something that's exact I'll find something close to what I'm looking for and alter it later. If the pattern is super simple I'll use a t-shirt to help with the sizing and guidelines as I draw something up (mostly eyeballing to start). This is where mock-ups and cheap materials come in handy. Before cutting any of the real material I'll be using, I'll create the final patterns (when a pattern needed to be altered or is drawn from scratch) on the cheap material. A cheap material I've seen many people use for mock-ups (including seeing it used on Project Runway) is muslin. I'll typically buy 5-ish yards at a time. If I'm altering a pre-existing pattern, I'll trace all the pieces onto the muslin and then change what's needed, adding or taking away from the pattern. When it looks right, cut it out and pin it together (you can even sew it together if it has a lot of pieces, just keep a seam ripper nearby and use a loose stitch). It's important to put it all together so that you can try it on and make sure it looks right and fits well. This is when you make any changes. It's easy to just cut and take away fabric if you need it smaller or redraw a piece if you need to make it bigger or add on more/completely change something. Using cheap fabric to create mock ups allows for you to make as many mistakes, changes, etc as you want without wasting any nice and/or expensive materials. Once everything fits well and looks the way you want, it's time to undo any pins or stitching on the mock-up and transfer that pattern to the real fabric you'll be using. Sew it together and done! Add any finishing touches and details as needed, of course.
There are other ways of creating and making patterns as well. Some people use newspaper--I have and still will too, mostly when making armor. Newspaper is flimsy and can tear easily, so I don't bother too often with trying to make dress and pants patterns out of it (at least not when I'm wanting to wear it/try it on before using the real fabric). There's the duct tape method too. Although, I've found that with this, even when wrapping the duct tape as loosely as possible, it will still "corset" you a bit and the pattern can come out anywhere from slightly smaller to a lot smaller than what you needed, depending on how tight the duct tape was wrapped. It is handy when working with stretchy materials and designs that you'd want tighter. I hope this was well explained enough for you all to find it helpful! :) ~Positive outcomes only! :) 1 Up Box is a monthly subscription box that send you various geeky goodies every month! It's about $20 a month so if you're interested in signing up click here. This month's theme was Transform! This was by far my favorite thing in the box! I saw it immediately after opening and was super excited! :D It's super soft and looks so cute next to all my other geeky plushies. This was this month's pin. Last month is still my favorite--I'm bias though, I love me some mew. This is a pretty cute pin still. I honestly don't think I'll ever use these but it's still a pretty cool design. They're pretty big for temporary tattoos, I'm used to much smaller and discrete ones, so this was something different! This was another favorite item! I really love adventure time and thought this was just the cutest, although I don't think I'll actually wear it that often. I'll just have to figure out something to wear this with at some point. This necklace isn't anything too fancy, but I'm really happy with it. This is probably my second favorite item from this month's box. I really like jewelry with that eerie feel. I love the fit, fabric and comfort of the 1 Up Box shirts so much! I'm not too familiar with the topic of the shirt though, sadly (I know, boo me) but it's still a good comfy shirt for lounging around in.
I didn't receive the stickers that were suppose to come in this month's box. I think it may have been lost during shipping or not packaged by mistake. It's okay because well hey, mistakes happen and I'm still pretty happy with everything I received. ~Positive Outcomes Only~ I made Korra for one of my best friends, Jessica Jeanne. So here's a bit on the process I went threw to make it :) For the shirt, I made a pattern using the duct tape method. I had my friend wear an old shirt that could be cut up, then wrapped masking/duct tape around her (don't use pressure. You don't want it tight!). I copied that onto materials and then sewed it together. I used a stretch, lightweight cotton material for the shirt and put an invisible zipper in the back. The white pieces are bias tape. You can also mod pre-existing patterns. For her arm bands, I used newspaper to make a simple "pattern"--really just to get the right size and length so it would fit well. make sure the openings are able to go over the widest part of the hands. While the blue pieces were a stretch, lightweight cotton materials, the bias tape doesn't have much give. For the pants I used a simple pajama/sweat pants pattern from Simplicity. Just look around for something that's fitting, it should be easy to find. I patterned the skirt with newspaper to get the right shape and size before cutting it out on the fabric. It's basically a large half circle. Then I sewed fake fur around the edges. I'm not sure what the exact material I used was, but it was close to a plush material (something that'd be used for stuffed animals). It was soft and semi-fuzzy. The skirt has a string tie, as well--like pj bottoms and sweat pants. I made the tie from the same kind of cotton material I'd been using. For the blue skirt I cut out two triangles, sewed them together inside out (with a small section left open), turned them right side out and finished sewing it up. I attached Velcro onto the front side of the blue skirt, on either ends of the triangle corners that'd be against the brown skirt. Then I attached a longer strip to the inside of the brown skirt--this way the blue skirt would attach simply by Velcro-ing it on. The arm band was made from the same type of cotton material the rest of the costume was made from (I used this lightweight, stretch cotton for everything but the lining, fur and brown skirt--it's super comfy to wear and breathable). To add the pattern I used white fabric paint the brand Tulip. To get straight lines I laid down scotch tape and taped paper circles where need be. For this you want to dab on the paint, don't paint it like you would a painting or something because then the paint may get under any lifted parts of the tape or paper and the line won't be as clean. I sewed it together after the paint was dry. Remove the tape once fully dry and before sewing--make sure the tape goes off the edges of the fabric so you have an edge to easily grab when taking it off.
And that's how I made Korra. Hope this could be of some use to any future Korra cosplayers out there! :) ~Positive outcomes only! :) Received my first 1 Up Box! 1 Up Box is a monthly subscription box that send you various geeky goodies every month! It's about $20 a month so if you're interested in signing up click here. This month's theme was Legends! I received this can cooler and/or coffee warmer? I'm not sure what these are called but it helps insulate your drink! I didn't notice in my video that it was a Hercules reference because I derped. I think this is pretty cute. I am a bit worried that drinks may not sit up right or risk tipping over in it until it's more broken in, though. This is super adorable. It's a cute little chibi vinyl of Dead Pool. I didn't even know this was a series but now that I do I'm definitely going to have to look into collecting more. I don't have anything that I put patches on but I love the Legend of Zelda series. I'm definitely going to have to find something to put patches on now. I didn't really have use for any of these things really but it was something small, simple and cute to receive in the box. I really like the decal sticker--I know I'll find use for that. This was one of my favorite things to receive. Definitely giving it to my Valentine. I like how adorable the art is and the quote is. I'm going to have to start finding a place to put buttons! I really love this month's button. It's so cute. This is another one of my favorite things I received in the box. This was, of course, the best thing in the box. I am in love with the shirt. I love the art work and the fact they champions are all pugs. I also love League of Legends so I was so excited to receive a product relevant to them. The shirt also fits great! I marked my shirt size as a woman's small. ~Positive Outcomes Only~
Dark Silver Body Chain ❤❤❤❤❤ It's a pretty simple but still really cute body chain. it fits nicely and gives any outfit a little something extra. The small string of rhinestones definitely adds to the chain and makes it much nicer and "fancy" in appearance. Harley Quinn Figure ❤❤❤❤❤ Harley Quinn is one of my favorite characters and I'd been wanting to start collecting figures so it was awesome to receive this from my Reddit secret Santa. She came with quite a few changeable parts (such as props and hands) which was pretty awesome. The figure it pose-able and well made too! Geometric Crop Top - Pacsun -$17 ❤❤❤❤♡ The shirt is made super well and from nice materials. It also fits great and I love that it's a longer cut while still being semi-cropped. I do feel it has a bit too boxy of a shape too it, so the shape I don't enjoy as much. other than that it's a really cute piece that's pretty simple so it definitely goes with almost anything in my wardrobe. It gives an outfit a little something extra that a plain black crop top or tee just wouldn't. Grumpy Cat Puzzle ❤❤❤❤❤ This puzzle was a pretty fun way to spend extra time and just relax doing. It wasn't too challenging to complete at all, though. So if you're looking for something more difficult, this wouldn't be it. Camera Book ❤❤❤❤❤ This was such an interesting gift to receive from my Reddit secret Santa. It's a super interesting concept but I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I'm a bit intimidated about switching the photo sheets and needing to be in total darkenss--because I don't really have a room that never gets some sort of light in it. I'll have to figure something out soon though because I'm still excited to use this! Hello Kitty Spatula ❤❤❤❤❤ This is super cute and I want all of my kitchen appliances and tools to be Hello Kitty someday! It works just like any other silicone spatula would and just adds such a cute touch to any kitchen. 12 Piece Eyshadow ❤❤❤♡♡ The colors in this palette are super pretty and are the colors I prefer wearing. I apologize I forgot to snap a picture of it open but I show it in the video above. Unfortunately, the eyeshadows are as pigmented as others I owned and take a couple of layers to get the true color to show up. FMA DVD Set ❤❤❤❤❤ Fullmetal Alchemist is my favorite anime so I was so excited to receive the first part of the dvd box set. The box cover art is so well done, and pretty cool even with it's simplicity. Knitted Boots - QVC ❤❤❤❤❤ These are great for wearing around the house. I love how cute they look and how comfortable they are. they're very warm as well so they're perfect for walking around in during the winter. I would not wear them outside though, they're just not really made for that and soak up any dampness or dirt really quickly. Lauren Conrad Lace Crop Top ❤❤❤❤❤ This top is just so incredibly gorgeous. And while I called it a crop top, like the other crop top I received, it's on the longer side and not actually all that cropped. It'd make a great top for a professional environment when paired with high wasted bottoms. Mermaid Corset - Hot Topic - $34 ❤❤❤❤❤ I love this corset. It's pretty sturdy and made from thick sturdy fabric. I love the design of it and think it'll be perfect for cosplay! High Wasted Floral Shorts - Pacsun - $30 ❤❤❤❤❤ These fit so well and are super comfortable to wear. I love the cut and the fact that they're a bit higher wasted. I can't wait to wear these when it warms up for the summer. Harley Quinn Muscle Tee - Hot Topic ❤❤❤❤❤ I love this style of shirt and the fact that it's Harley Quinn related makes it so much better. This is definitely going to become one of my favorite and most worn shirts. It's super comfortable too! Summer Halter Top - Pacsun - $20ish ❤❤❤❤❤ I'm excited to wear this for the summer. I think this will make a great top to wear to the beach, especially over a swim suit but it's also perfect for any bohemian themed outfits. Singer ProFinish - eBay - $200 ❤❤❤❤❤ I've been wanting a serger for a long time to help finish my garments and costumes, as well as aid in sewing stretch fabrics. I have yet to learn how to work it yet, but I will be looking into that (reading and watching all the instruction manuals and tutorials it came with) real soon! Espon Printer - Best Buy - $50 ❤❤❤❤♡ I really like how compact this printer is and that fact that it has a scanner too! My last printer was nice and compact and printed photos beautiful but lacked a scanner part. This one prints really well, but I will say that my old printer (Cannon Jet Ink printer of some sort) printed photos much better--the quality can't compare and I would still use the Cannon Jet Ink printer for photos if it still worked. Other than that comparison it does do it's job and the photos it print are in no way poor quality or bad, in fact they're really great. The price for it's ink is fairly decent as well. Purple Lace Dress - Wet Seal - $20 ❤❤❤❤❤ I love this dress so much. I like that it has just a sheer lace for the sleeves and the low back. The cut, style and silhouette is so beautiful and the dress just looks so elegant. I also really love the deep purple color it came in. It's very well made and fits like a glove. ~Positive Outcomes Only~
So here's a little over view of the Ani-Me Holiday Fest event I attended. The convention was a lot of fun. It's was a local, free convention that took place in a mall. The area itself was on the smaller side but it still had a large amount of people attending. And for the area we're in it's definitely one of the bigger (or even biggest) local conventions. The cosplay scene or amount of cosplayers who attend and cosplay at this series of conventions has definitely grown! There's so many amazing cosplayers too! And all the cosplays, whether bought or handmade, are so well done and always look great. The two group photos were taken by Boss Man on Facebook. We had a gathering for all the cosplayers at the con and another one for all the League of Legends cosplayers since there was quite a few. Keep in mind the photo below wasn't all of the cosplays who attended, either. It was fun talking with and meeting the other local cosplayers. I also entered the little cosplay competition and derped out a bit on stage because I have no perception of time, whoops! There were also some pretty cool booths/tables! I really loved all the artist tables, they're all so talent--I wanted to buy so many prints. There were some funny and creative panels and performances, as well. I cosplayed as Slay Belle Katarina from League of Legends and let me just say, this cosplay did not want to be made. Everything technology wise, like my sewing machine and Dremel kept breaking or not wanting to work correctly. So I had to improvise and injured myself many times in the process, then proceeded to ignore safety directions for products like Bondo and spray paint--breathed in way too many fumes I shouldn't have and got it in the cuts on my finger. Follow the safety directions! Don't take short cuts like me in attempt to finish something in time. Luckily I ended up getting help doing the sanding on my props from my cousin. She'd never done anything of the sorts, nor is really interested in it, but she's super supportive and helpful and it was really nice of her to help me out!
I'm pretty happy with how this costume turned out. I wish I could've gotten the props a little smoother but I didn't choose the best materials to make them from. I also wish some of my stitches and seams were nice, but my sewing machine kept doing odd things which messed up the stitches, ate the fabric or resulted in loose/un-stitched pieces that I had to resew. It still got the job done and unless you're specifically looking at the poorly stitched parts it's not ever noticeable. I created everything but the shoes from scratch on this costume! The headband was an old one I removed all the decorations off over and replaced the fabric with green. Then I made antlers and attached those to the headband. I made the pattern for the dress using muslin before sewing the final product.I made all the belts from scratch as well and punched all the eyelets in both the belt and corset pieces, then added Velcro so the extra ends of the belts would stay put. I also created the striped fabric by combining two different ones and hand sewed all the furry bits onto the costume. I'll have more about all the specifics in a later post. Overall, the convention was super fun and I love seeing how the Ani-Me conventions are growing. I really enjoyed the artist tables and fellow cosplayers. It's always fun to see and share creativity! I'm so excited and will not only be attending, but help in judging the cosplay competition at the next Ani-Me convention, Ani-Me 5.0. ~Positive Outcomes Only~ Here's a bit of an overview on how I went about making my Annie (from League of Legends) cosplay. I made her original classic skin, not the new one--I don't really enjoy sweater vests. For the dress, I used a pattern from Simplicity. I can't remember the specific one, but just browse around and I'm sure you'll find something suiting. I did mod it a bit, mostly the length and the cuffs. The fabric I used was a type of stretch, lightweight cotton material. For the collar, you could easily just layer the dress over a button up shirt. I had one I ordered off eBay already (it's an accessory sort of thing), so I just used that. To make the skirt poofy, I took tulle and attached it to an elastic band I cut and sewed to fit me. All i did to attach the tulle was cut long, thick strips and tie it around the elastic band, at the center of the tulle strip (hope that makes sense-you end up getting two layers from that one strip). For her leg warmers, I used two different fabrics and sewed them together in a horizontal stripe pattern. I cut multiple strips of each color about 2 1/2 inches wide--with seam allowance on either side. The very top strip is folded over and has an elastic band sewn inside. The fabric I used was the same as the dress, a comfortable, lightweight cotton with some stretch to it. To make the pattern--so they would have the right shape and length--I used newspaper and created a cone shape around my leg. I also added lace around the bottom of the dress. For the fire, I used red, yellow and orange tulle and wrapped those around a battery-powered, flickering tea candle ($1 for 2 on eBay). I cut and shaped it better after it was wrapped around the candle. Just fiddle with it till it looks how you'd like. I already owned a cat ear headband, so I traced those ears and made a sort of covering using the fabric I used on the leg warmers. A cardboard base glued onto a headband could work just as well (or stuffed ears).
I also made some bear heads using the fabric I used for the leg warmers and attached those to a small, pink backpack I already owned. Tibbers was bough from the Riot store. And that's how I made Annie. Hope any future Annie cosplayers can find this helpful. I also sell some of the accessories, like the leg warmers, in my store! ~Positive outcomes only! :) |
